“Strumming My First Guitar”
words & music by Paul Rolnick & John Nanni

I was short on cash, pumping that gas, saving every penny I made
I wanted that Tele at the House of Music and I had it on layaway
My buddies had a gig at the Keg and Kettle (and) said I could join the band
And my dad made up the difference, put that guitar in my hand

Strumming my first guitar
Man I felt like a super star
Rocking it out in a small town bar
Strumming my first guitar

Well my dad liked Jimmy Dorsey,  but I liked Jimmy Paige
I guess the music inside of you happens when you come of age
I know dad never understood why I had to play so loud
He'd roll his eyes, shake his head, but I knew that he was proud

Strumming my first guitar
Man I felt like a super star
Rocking it out in a small town bar
Strumming my first guitar

Now a bunch of us
Are on the this bus
Practicing our songs
We gig around
From town to town
Sometimes the road gets long

But this piece of wood
Has done me good
It always makes me smile
You can bet
I’ll never forget
When dad went the extra mile

I was strumming my first guitar
Man I felt like a super star
Rocking it out in a small town bar
Strumming my first guitar

I was strumming my first guitar
Man I felt like a super star
Rocking it out in a small town bar
Strumming my first guitar

Who would have thought I would get this far
Strumming my first guitar

I was strumming my first guitar
Yeah strumming my first guitar
Yeah…
Strumming my first guitar
